Departing from Christchurch, we travel south along State Highway 1, passing through picturesque farmland, expansive Canterbury Plains, and charming rural communities.
As the landscape changes, enjoy increasingly spectacular views of the Southern Alps and wide open farms with beef and sheep before continuing through the scenic towns of Geraldine and Fairlie.
One of the highlights of the journey is Lake Tekapo, renowned for its turquoise waters, breathtaking alpine scenery, and the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd. It is an ideal place to pause, take photographs, enjoy a coffee, or visit the local bakery before continuing onwards.
The journey from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo takes approximately 4 hours plus stops, depending on traffic and the time spent at stops. From there, we continue through the stunning Mackenzie Basin to Twizel, where your transfer concludes at your preferred accommodation or destination.Twizel is an excellent base for exploring the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail, enjoying salmon fishing, and discovering the wider Mackenzie region. It is also a convenient stopover for travellers continuing to Aoraki / Mount Cook Village. Transfers to Mount Cook Village can be arranged in advance.
