Leaving from Christchurch at 9am, you will head through the rolling hills to see why the 770 locals of Akaroa love this part of the country so much. It currently has a population of around 770. Your first stop will be in the historic township of Little River and will mark the true beginning of your journey through the hills. Carrying on round Akaroa Harbour, take in the surrounding beauty as you make your way to historic Akaroa itself.
Originally settled by Māori, it became the site of New Zealand’s only French colony in 1840, leaving a lasting legacy seen in the town’s architecture, street names, and vibrant culture. Its charming waterfront, boutique shops, galleries, and cafes reflect both its colonial heritage and creative local spirit.
